2nd LEARNING-TEACHING-TRAINING MEETING in ALEXANDROUPOLI, GREECE

Our school hosted 29 students and 14 teachers from Italy, Poland, Portugal, Latvia and Romania.
The five groups are:

Sunday 17th March
Our guests started arriving. Early in the afternoon we welcomed the Latvian team who came by bus from Thessaloniki and early in the evening the Polish team came by plane. The parents were waiting at the airport to welcome the Polish students who would be staying with them for the following days. The Romanian team prefered to come by bus all the way down to our town and came straight to our school. On the very first hours of Monday the Italian team came by bus from Thessaloniki and the Portuguese team arrived early in the morning on Monday 18th March just in time for our Welcome celabration at school. The students stayed at our students' homes. So, let the fun begin!!!!
Monday 18th March
Celebration at school / Welcome ceremony
At school we had a big celebration with songs, theatrical plays and dancing. Two students in traditional costumes welcomed our guests with " bread and salt" a custom of our region, Thrace. Lots of people attended the welcome ceremony. The education manager of our prefecture, the president of the Parent Association of our school, the President of the School commitee, the school councellor for educational matters.
In the afternoon the teachers visited the City Hall where they were welcomed by the representative of the Mayor and then they went to the Ethnological Museum of Thrace where the attended an interactive theatrical seminar in the form of a debate. The teachers were divided into 2 groups and took roles in order to be in favor or against the touristic and commercial exploitation of Dadia Forest. They really enjoyed it and they got interesting ideas about the ways in which a similar debate can be used in class.
The teachers visited the Ecclesiastical Museum and Saint Nicholaos' Cathedral in Alexandroupoli. Later they visited the ancient Olive garden in Makri aged more than 2,500 years and the "Kyklopas" olive oil factory where they were informed about the importance of olive oil production in our area. After that they visited the Archaeological site of Zone- Mesimvria.

In the evening there was a big celebration at school with traditional dancing and food depiction from our countries.
Tuesday 19th March / Wednesday 20th March / Thursday 21st March
The students and the teachers travelled to Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli forest where they spend 3 days. The activities there included the following:
- Getting informed about the forest
- learning about the area's flora and fauna
- Getting informed about the vultures that live and breed there
- Living close to Nature
- Walking in the forest
- Observing Nature at daytime and nighttime
- Bird watching
- Trekking
- Cycling
- Presenting project activities to the other students using different techniques
- Presenting cultural elements of their countries to the other students.
- Discussing the project activities
- Visiting the Delta of the river Evros
- Visiting places of historic and cultural imprortance in the area:
- the 2 Silk Museums in Soufli
- the Delta of the river Evros and the Information center in Loutra
- the Byzantine church of Kosmosotira in Ferres

Thursday 21st March:
Visit to the Silk Museums in Soufli
They weaved their own piece of cloth and the watched the procedure of the removal of the silk thread from the coccoon.
